So, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having your kids try their hand at inventing things!
They’ll learn so much from their mistakes, and they’ll be able to see how much work goes into making something new.
And it also gives them a sense of pride when they see their idea come to life!
When you’re in fifth grade, you may be ready to move on from toy-making into more complex creations, but there are still plenty of projects that will challenge your brain while keeping your hands busy.
Here are some of my favorite easy kid inventions ideas for 5th graders:
Recycle Styrofoam
This invention would be great because it is something that could save the environment and also a great way to help out people who need to make money.
The invention uses heat energy to convert the Styrofoam into carbon, which can then be used for other things like building or heating homes.
The inventor could make money by selling this invention to businesses or even individuals who want to help out the environment but don’t have the time or money to do so.
The conversion process works by heating the styrofoam until it melts into liquid form.
The liquid can then be processed into carbon, which can then be used for things like building materials or even fuel!
Water Talkie
One of my favorite easy kid inventions is the “water talkie,” which enables swimmers to talk with one another underwater from as far as 15 feet away.
It works by using two different types of speakers that transmit sound waves through the water rather than air.
The device consists of two plastic cups attached together by rubber bands, each holding a speaker inside them.
The listener holds one cup close to their ear while holding onto the other cup in order to hear what others are saying underwater without having to worry about water getting into their ears as traditional headphones do!
Easy Lift Trash Can
Making a trash can that’s easy to lift is a great project for 5th-grade students.
First, you need to create a box out of cardboard. You can make the box any size you like, but it should be large enough to hold a regular-sized trash bag.
Next, cut out two holes in the bottom of your box—one for the garbage bag and one for a handle. Add your handle and then decorate your trash can with markers or stickers! It’s that easy!
It’s so simple! You just have to put a hook on the inside of the lid, and then tie a string around the outside of it.
That way, when you pull on the string, it’ll open up your trash can.
Harvest Solar Leaves
Harvest Solar Leaves is a simple, fun, and educational project that uses the basic principles of photosynthesis to generate electricity.
It is an easy kid invention that can be used in the classroom or at home.
How does it work? – Harvest Solar Leaves is an eco-friendly device that captures solar energy and converts it into electricity.
It has a solar panel that absorbs light energy from the sun and converts it into electricity.
The generated current is stored in an internal battery which can be used to power other devices like lights or fans.
Baby Food Dispensing Spoon
This spoon has a dispenser attached to the top of it, so you don’t have to scoop out the baby food and then put it on your plate.
It’s already ready for you!
You can just hold it over your bowl and squeeze, and voila! The perfect amount of baby food will come out. The dispenser is easy to use and clean.
This spoon would make a great addition to any family mealtime. It’s simple enough that even young children can operate it themselves if needed.
However, it is also useful for older kids who are starting to cook more often at home.
I think this would be especially handy for people with limited mobility or arthritis.
Paper Fan
Paper fans are simple to make and easy to use.
All you have to do is cut out a rectangle of paper (or use a piece of cardboard), fold it in half, then cut slits along each side so that when you open it up, there are two flaps on either side of the middle fold.
Then glue the folded stick edge down onto one of the flaps and stick two sticks through the holes in each flap.
You should be able to hold them together easily enough with just your fingers.
Voila! You’ve got yourself a fantastic new toy that will keep kids entertained for hours on end.
Laptop Camera Cover
This invention is an ingenious way to protect your camera from curious eyes.
When you hear that snap, snap sound of a camera taking a picture, what do you do?
You cover your face, right? That’s what we do. But why not cover the camera instead?
This is a great way to protect yourself from people who might want to take pictures of you without your permission or knowledge.
All you need is an empty Tic Tac container (or any other small round container) and some glue.
Glue the top onto the laptop camera, then put it on the bottom so it can’t pop off. Now when someone tries to take a picture of you, they’ll get nothing but an empty cap!
Pen with a light
First, you’ll need a small LED light that can be powered by a battery. You can find these at most hardware stores or online.
Next, you’ll need some tape so that you can attach the battery and bulb to your pen.
Then, stick the battery on one end of the pen and glue it down so that it stays in place. Now put the light bulb on top of the other end of the pen and glue it down as well.
When you turn on your new invention, it will illuminate your work area!
Fidget Spinner
The fidget spinner is one of the most popular kid inventions for 5th graders.
This toy can be made by using a few bottle caps, glue, and three coins. The process is simple and easy to learn.
First, you will need to get a few bottle caps from any store where they sell them.
After that, you need to glue them together by placing them on top of each other in order to form a circle shape.
Once you have glued all of your bottle caps together, you can put three coins inside of them so that it has weight and balance.
You can also decorate your fidget spinner with paint or markers if you want!
