Arthritically Correct
Stateline resident's products make life better for sufferers

Frank Halstead may not have invented a better mousetrap, but he's certainly come up with a better lamp switch. And a better faucet turner. And a better set of playing cards.

What do all these items have in common? They're part of his Arthritically Correct line of products that make life easier for people who suffer from arthritis. And with the aging of the Baby Boomers, that's a fast-growing market. As more individuals develop, the painful condition in their fingers, simple tasks like opening doors, tying one's shoes and pouring beverages from large containers become increasingly difficult

Marketing guru Halstead - probably best-known for the popularity of the Pet Rock and whoopee cushions - watched his mother's struggles to deal with everyday activities and came up with the idea of creating items that would make her life more comfortable. He began developing his products in 1999 with the idea of helpingZactive seniors" remain active and independent.

Halstead's "Pain-free" products range from $2 to $9.95. While they were originally sold in retail food and drug chains, he discontinued that approach in response to pressure to raise the prices, as well as a lack of understanding of the value of such products by store employees. He now sells his products through contractors and through seniors who understand the need and enjoy a little supplemental income.

Now that he's semi-retired, Halstead devotes a great deal of his energy giving presentations about his product line, but he hasn't totally given up on novelty marketing.

To learn more about Halstead, his inventions and what he is marketing now, come to the April NIA meeting April 26 at Washoe Medical Center, Room 102 from 9 a.m. to noon.

UIA director offers web marketing opportunity
From Carol Oldenburg
UIA Administrator

One of the newest UIA board members, Paul Niemann, is the president of a company that has specialized in building web pages for inventors since 1998. His site is www.MarketLaunchers.com.

The company places inventors' web pages on their Invention Database, where manufacturers and other potential licensees can see them. The site has been a joint venture with Inventors' Digest for more than three years, and now the UIA has joined forces with them to help inventors promote their inventions on the Internetwith additional exposure.

The benefits of the Market Launchers' service are

• You'll have your own web page - with your own unique web address. (Currently, your invention is listed with many other products on the same UIA page.) On MarketLaunchers.com, you'll get your own complete web page WITH YOUR OWN UNIQUE WEB ADDRESS, such a www.marketlaunchers.com/wilson.html

• Your web page can have unlimited text and up to ten (10) pictures.

• The products on the MarketLaunchers.com Invention Database are seen by companies who are looking for new products. These include manufacturers, product scouts, investors, direct response TV companies, catalog companies and other potential licensees.

• Your Invention Web Page can be used as your brochure. When you're talking to a company on the phone, you can direct them to your web page to see your invention - eliminating the need to have brochures printed up to send in the mail.

• 1-year and 2-year options are available. Pricing info is at http://www.marketlaunchers.com/forms.html

• There's no extra charge if and when your invention sells.

If you have a good product for which there is a market, you'll probably receive calls from companies. Getting your own web page is simple. All you have to do is send in a description of your product (and pictures), along with your order, and Paul will take care of it from there.
If you wish to order online, visit http:// www.inventorhelp.com/newproducts/marketl.htm. Your own web page will be finished within 2 days of receiving your order.

If you have any questions, feel free to call Paul Niemann at (800) 337-5758.

ARE YOU AN INVENTOR? (A Research Survey Project)

Dear Inventor:

I am a student working on a dissertation for my Ph.D. I am currently engaged in research that attempts to identify the success ratios of inventors commercializing new products, ideas and technologies. In addition, it is expected that some of the material from the research questionnaires will be used to evaluate problems inventors face when introducing their inventions into the market through the various stages of new product development. Your participation in this research is extremely important and purely voluntary for the purpose of research only.

It would be truly appreciated, if you , would complete a brief questionnaire regarding your newly patented product/invention/ technology or idea. This survey should take approximately 4 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers to any of the questions. At No TIME will any identifying material be used in such a way to identify you personally. At No TIME will any of the specific information be used without your express written consent.

To take the survey, copy the following URL into your browser's address bar: http://poll.marketreaderpro.com/?p=83&r=91&L=143

Thank you for your time and participation in completing the questionnaire. I wish you great success with your new product. If you have any questions, please call me at 352 373-1007.

P0-lease feel free to forward this email to your fellow inventor friends. Thanks in advance for your help!

Sincerely,
Pamela Riddle Bird
